DURATION
The program has a duration of 24 months, or four academic semesters. During this period, students must complete the required disciplines:

  • 03 Preparation courses (00 credits each);
  • 07 Required courses (03 credits each);
  • 03 Major elective courses (03 credits each);
  • 01 free elective course (03 credits each).

In the academic semester immediately after students obtain 33 credits, they must fully dedicate themselves to the preparation of their master’s thesis. The student will then be able to enroll in the ADM 3000 – Master’s Dissertation course.

The course is focused on meeting the objectives of students interested in research activities and in a career in teaching, as well as on allowing them to perform in organizations and business environments.

COURSES

It provides preparation, required, and elective courses covering the four majors.

Preparation: three courses worth zero credits each, to be taken in the summer immediately before the beginning of the course. They will be under the distance tutoring modality and will be evaluated by means of a test applied at the start of term.

Required: seven required courses worth three credits each.

Electives: set of courses corresponding to the four majors: Strategy, Finance, Marketing, and Organizations.

REQUIRED NUMBER OF CREDITS

The Master’s Course requires a minimum total of 33 credits.

Preparation Courses

Conceitos básicos. Teorias administrativas: Administração científica, movimento de relações humanas, behaviorismo, estruturalismo. Teoria dos sistemas e escola sistêmica. Utilização dos conceitos na prática administrativa.

Utilização da Contabilidade no ambiente empresarial como instrumento essencial para todas as decisões econômicas. As quatro demonstrações financeiras básicas. Depreciação e fluxo de caixa. Análise dos efeitos patrimoniais das operações econômicas.

Conceitos básicos, métodos gráficos e numéricos para descrição de dados, cálculo de probabilidades, variáveis aleatórias discretas e variáveis aleatórias contínuas.

A lógica da análise estratégica compreendendo definições, desempenho e vantagem competitiva, análise de ameaças/oportunidades e avaliação de pontos fortes/fracos das empresas na ótica da RBV (Resource-Based View). Estratégias de negócios, incluindo liderança de custo, diferenciação de produtos, tipologias de estratégias, benchmarking estratégico, análise de opções reais sob risco e incerteza e conluios tácitos. Estratégias corporativas, com destaque para alianças estratégicas, integração vertical, diversificação e fusões/aquisições.

Amostragem (métodos e distribuições), estimadores, intervalos de confiança, testes de hipóteses, regressão linear simples e múltipla, análise de variância, séries temporais, análise de dados categóricos e estatística não paramétrica.

Principais metodologias de pesquisa e suas premissas epistemológicas. Problema e processo de pesquisa. A escolha da metodologia adequada à pesquisa: positivista ou fenomenológica, empírica ou teórica. Pesquisas secundárias (bibliográfica, documental, telematizada), pesquisas de campo (surveys, estudos de caso, pesquisa-ação, observação participante, pesquisa aplicada, pesquisa experimental). Responsabilidade e gestão ambiental: legislação, licenciamento ambiental, estratégias de mitigação e adaptação às mudanças climáticas, ecoeficiência. Sistemas de gestão ambiental: ecoempreendedorismo e empreendedorismo sustentável. Responsabilidade Social Corporativa (RSC): modelos básicos, ética corporativa, RSC e governança corporativa.

Finance Electives

Princípios e práticas da avaliação de projetos de investimento e aquisição de empresas. Alternativas para seu financiamento, com ênfase nas inovações das técnicas financeiras, tais como fusões e venture capital.

Mercados futuros, a termo e de opções. Determinação de preços destes contratos. Estratégias de Hedge. Swaps. Apreçamento de opções. Modelos binomiais. Opções de taxas de juros. Derivativos de Crédito. Utilização de Derivativos por Empresas.

Marketing Electives

Graduated in Business Administration from the Pontifical Catholic University of Rio Grande do Sul (PUCRS, 2009), Master and Doctorate in Administration (concentration area: Finance) from the Postgraduate Program in Administration at the School of Administration at the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul (EA/UFRGS, 2012, and 2016, respectively), and post-doctorate with the Accounting Sciences program at the University of Vale do Rio dos Sinos (Unisinos, 2017). He completed a sandwich doctorate at HEC-Montreal over 12 months and attended a course at the PPGA of FEA/USP. He was a professor in the Department of Administrative Sciences at the Federal University of Santa Catarina (CAD/UFSC) and visiting professor for post-graduate courses at UniRitter-Porto Alegre and the Catholic University of Pelotas. He also taught at UNISC, UNIFIN and IBGEN/SC. He is currently a Business Administration professor in the Graduate Program (Academic Master’s program, Professional Master’s program and Doctoral program) at IAG - School of Business at PUC-Rio. She has been an associate professor at PUC-Rio - IAG since 1979. She was a researcher and visiting professor at the Université Jean Moulin de Lyon (1995), at the Ecole des Hautes Etudes Commerciales (HEC) in Montreal (1993), at the École Superieure des Affaires of the Université de Sciences Sociales de Grenoble (1996,1992,1990), at Rissho University of Tokyo (1988), at Florida International University (1994), and at the Graduate School of Urban Professions, Department of Management and Human Resources of the New School for Social Research (1989). She published several articles in Brazil and abroad. Doutor em Administração de Empresas

Obtained a doctoral degree in Business Administration from PUC-Rio, in April 2007. Holds a master's degree in Business Administration from PUC-Rio (1998), having graduated in Production Engineering from UFRJ (1982). He serves as an assistant professor on the main board of PUC-Rio’s Administration Department. He is the theme leader on Socio-Environmental Sustainability and Corporate Ethics in the Strategy Division of ANPAD. Is a member of the Consultative Council at PUC-Rio’s NIMA. He develops two fields of research: 1- Strategies for public and private organization sustainability 2- Sustainable entrepreneurship. Within these fields, he’s mainly focused on: Field 1 - Participatory management of environmental conservation units, ecotourism in natural parks; Impacts of major events on the Sustainability of cities; Implementation of competitive and collaborative strategies for sustainability in companies; measuring corporate sustainability. With a post-doctorate in Behavioral Finance from McMaster University (Canada) (2009), he is currently an associate professor at the PUC-Rio. He has experience in the field of Business Administration and Economics, with emphasis on Financial Administration, Capital Markets and Economics, International Finance, and Econometrics, focusing mainly on financial economics, behavioral finance, capital markets, econometrics, international finance, and international economics. He has published books and articles in Brazil and abroad. He is coordinator of FINE at IAG PUC-Rio and Associate Researcher at NUPEI at IAG PUC-Rio. He won the award for best working paper in economics from the Central Bank of Brazil in 2018. He is a Level 2 CNPq Research Productivity Scholar and a Rio de Janeiro Scientist from FAPERJ.

Doctoral degree in Finance from PUC-Rio (2002), MBA from Stanford Graduate School of Business (1979), Master in Civil Engineering from Stanford University (1977) and graduated in Civil Engineering from PUC-Rio. He is currently an Associate Professor at PUC - Rio. He has experience in Business Administration, with an emphasis on Analysis and Evaluation of Projects and Companies, Real Options, and Risk Analysis. He is one of the coordinators of NUPEI at PUC-Rio, working on projects relating to Energy, Infrastructure, Public-Private Partnerships, and Risk, Uncertainty, and Flexibility in Project Analysis. He was the winner of the 2007 ANPAD Award for best work in Finance and was advisor to the doctoral thesis that won the 2011 CAPES Thesis Award. He was a financial executive for companies, and actively participates in training and consulting for public and private companies.

Leonardo Lima is professor of finance and energy economics at IAG PUC-Rio. He was an advisory advisor to QG energia e Diferencial Energia between 2008 and 2018 and statutory advisor to Lorenge SA between 2009 and 2015. He served as manager of energy commercialization at Neoenergia until 2008, having also worked as an analyst at Cepel and IBM between 1996 and 2001 At IAG he coordinated MBA´s and in-company courses for ONS, MME, Vale and Petrobras. As a researcher, he is one of the coordinators of NUPEI in the Administration Department - PUC-Rio, having authored and co-authored 1 book, 4 book chapters and more than 100 scientific articles in journals and national and international conferences on topics related to corporate finance, energy markets and investments in infrastructure; He has a degree in mechanical engineering and a master's and doctorate in production engineering with an emphasis in finance from PUC-Rio.

Has a doctoral degree in Business Administration from PUC-Rio, with emphasis on Strategy (2017). Received FAPERJ’s Sandwich Doctorate Scholarship from September 2016 to August 2017, having conducted academic research at Aalto University School of Business (Helsinki, Finland). Obtained his Master’s in Business Administration from PUC-Rio (2006). Graduated in Computer Engineering at the same University (2001). Conducts research and has articles published in high impact national and international academic journals and congresses in the areas of Innovation Management, Strategy, and Alliance Networks. Project Manager with PMP certification, worked as Project and Process Manager and, for 13 years, was responsible for in-company training for organizations of various industries; retail, foreign trade, marketing, education, information technology, and oil and gas. He is currently a Business Administration Graduate Program professor (Academic Master’s program, Professional Master’s program, and Doctoral program) at the IAG - School of Business at PUC-Rio.

Doutor em Economia

Graduated in Business Administration from UFRJ (1977). He holds a doctoral degree from EPGE/FGV-Rio, 1985. Is currently a professor at IAG PUC-Rio. He has work experience with Business Administration as well as published research on the subject, focusing on the following fields: Derivatives, Financial Markets, and Portfolio Management. In 2007 and 2008, he took a leave from PUC-Rio and directed, in São Paulo, the Educational Institute of BM&F. During this period, among the various activities in which he participated, he was one of the representatives of BM&F in the work group coordinated by the CVM, which was responsible for preparing the “Brazilian Strategy on Financial Education.” Author of the books "Introduction to Derivatives" (Introdução aos Derivativos) and "International Finance," (Finanças Internacionais) published in 2002 and 2008, respectively, and of several articles on derivatives in national and international congresses and in specialized magazines.

Doutora em Sociologia

Has a doctoral degree in Sociology from IUPERJ (2003), Master’s in Business Administration from Fundação Getúlio Vargas (1994), graduated both in Sociology and Political Science from PUC-Rio (1988). She is currently academic coordinator of the Organization Studies Major, professor of the undergraduate and master's courses in Business Administration at PUC-Rio, and Coordinator of the Human Resource Management MBA at PUC-Rio as well. Member of the ANPAD Scientific Committee of the Academic Division of People Management and Labor Relations, since 2013. She has carried out research and published articles in scientific journals on the following topics: organizational behavior, education, and professional insertion. (As informed by the professor)
